Electricity Distribution in the Greater Colombo area

The objective of the Ceylon Electricity Board project is to satisfy the growing demand for electricity in the Greater Colombo area by building four additional electric power substations and integrating these into the 132kV power grid. This scheme fosters the conditions necessary for industrial growth, thus helping to reduce one of the most serious economic problems in Sri Lanka, i.e. the lack of jobs available for what is a relatively well educated population. The project is being subsidised with KfW (Reconstruction Loan Corporation) funds.
