Improved permeability of iron(0)-reactive reaction walls for groundwater decontamination by means of microbial digestion processes

In groundwater decontamination using iron(0)-reactive walls, the production and accumulation of gaseous phases in the reaction chamber is a significant disruption factor. The gaseous phases impair permeability (gas clogging) and long-term stability. This application problem’s greatest factor is hydrogen. Based on this background, the project partners investigate the potential of microbial digestion processes capable of removing this disruptive substance.
