Wood Construction

Resistant medium-density fibreboard (MDF) from low-value old oak assortments

The aim of the project was to determine the extent to which oak wood fibres produced using different pulping processes (TMP and CTMP processes) can be used to produce fibreboards that have a high moisture resistance of the bonding and at the same time a high biological resistance. In addition to the influence of the age of the oak wood and the pulping process, the effect of the binder used was also included in the investigation. Furthermore, the physical-technological properties and the release of formaldehyde and volatile organic acids were to be determined on the fibreboards produced.
