Aktion „Best Practice für die Umwelt“, Werkstoffliches Recycling von PVC-Bauprodukten (2019)

Summary

For years, the housing and demolition industry has been showing increased environmental awareness in energy refurbishment or selective deconstruction activities. From the recycling of building materials according to the Recycling and Waste Management Act (KrWG) of Germany benefit both the environment and the participating companies by increasing their ecological credibility. Since the 1990s, manufacturers of PVC products have established functioning recycling and reuse systems throughout Germany as part of their product responsibility. In keeping with the motto "Best Practice for the Environment" these have already been operated in numerous refurbishment and dismantling projects. Within the framework of a targeted initiative titled Aktion 'Best Practice für die Umwelt', exemplary projects were identified in the Federal States of Saxony, Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt and in a few other locations within a period of two years, in which PVC building products were recycled and reused on the basis of a practical building project. This brochure of about 30 pages deals with the initiation, realisation and results of these projects. More than ten construction projects are described in concrete terms and the achieved recycling success is quantified and illustrated with pictures. In addition, the actors are introduced and the reactions to this action within the industry and from the press are displayed.
