Lignin oxidation to obtain high-quality oligomeric functional building blocks

The LignOx project aimed at a material use of the lignin contained in black liquor from sulphate pulp mills. To this end, the project investigated the oxidative conversion of kraft lignin in order to test the resulting oxidation products with optional chemical modification in selected fields of application. Advantages are the successive reduction of the sulphur content in the lignin, the presentation of material utilisation paths from the black liquor to the product and the close cooperation with the industry involved.
